All the computer programs have been made for a specific purpose which can also include applets to enhance the functionality. Applet is a program which can be used within another program and it is found online or even embedded in the Internet browsers.

An applet must be utilized along with a program that has been embedded to be functional. Applets have been developed using a programming language Java.

Internet browsers also have applets that support to watch particular types of video files in a browser window.

3. The main advantages of using applets are it is considered to be very secure as it can access information from the program which they have been associated with. Applets cannot access the data directly from a hard drive in the computer and it cannot get direct access to a hard drive.

4. Applets can be used on a wide variety of platforms and it is not specific for any certain program. They feature a relatively small file sizes and does not take long time to download. It can be used as a plug-in for another program and sometimes it will come already installed in the main program.
