Drivers support the operating systems to use and work along with the pieces of hardware. The Intel AEC driver supports an operating system to use the Intel powered AEC controller.

1. Most of the computers use components which connect to a motherboard. The components are sound cards, network adapters, hard drives and graphics cards. The components will be powered as well as controlled by the processor via motherboard and they will function if not connected to the processor.

2. Controllers are similar to other hardware components and are smaller computers themselves as they have their own micro operating system and a processor. In an Intel AEC, controller uses an Intel microprocessor and they need to be connected to hardware. They will continue operating in case it is unplugged from a motherboard.

3. Controllers interface with a motherboard and process the data that is sent to them. Then they will send the processed data back to the motherboard. But, the purpose they serve mainly depends on the specific programming of the controller.
