An iMac G5 may face overheating problem which may worry most of the users. However it is a very common problem that can be solved by following few simple steps.

1. First you must check for vent holes that have been covered with dust which can affect the computer’s ability to cool itself. There are long vent on top of the machine which will be too long.

2. Touch the back of the device when you experience the signs of overheating. Try to place a small or large fan at the back of the device to cool the aluminum portions.

3. There is a program known as Activity Monitor in the device which can be used to see the current activities. Closing the unused programs may cool the computer more quickly.

4. Finally after following the above options, you can download a program which helps to control the iMac’s fans to turn on at a lower speed. You can use a program called as smcFanControl which will help to monitor the temperatures of the hard disk, CPU and other components of the computer.
